Antimalarial agent 51 (Compound 2) is an orally active antimalarial compound. Antimalarial agent 51 blocks nutrient uptake by Plasmodium by inhibiting the plasmodium surface anion channel (PSAC) . Antimalarial agent 51 significantly inhibits the growth of Plasmodium under nutrient-restricted conditions. Combination of antimalarial agent 51 with the residual transport inhibitor PRT-2 can enhance the antimalarial effect. Antimalarial agent 51 can be used in the study of malaria targeting the PSAC channel[1].
