CHGA protein robustly inhibits glucose-induced insulin release from the pancreas, functioning as a non-competitive nicotinic cholinergic antagonist. It inhibits catecholamine release, displays antibacterial activity, induces mast cell responses, and scavenges free radicals. CHGA may also regulate cardiac function and blood pressure.
