C16 Ceramide (d16:1, C16:0) is a bioactive sphingolipid that induces ordered- and gel-phase formation and thermal stabilization of palmitoylsphingomyelin-rich domains in palmitoylphosphocholine (POPC) bilayers. C16 Ceramide (d16:1, C16:0) is found in sphingomyelins in human erythrocytes[1][2].
